King Oyster Gourmet Mushroom Growing Kit
The King Oyster Gourmet Mushroom Growing Kit is a DIY Feast! and a fun and creative way to grow gourmet mushrooms in your own kitchen. King Oyster mushrooms are native to Mediterranean regions of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa and are the largest mushroom in the oyster family. The distinctive shape of the King Oyster mushroom lends itself to a variety of innovative cooking techniques, including searing them sliced in the fashion of scallops. When freshly picked and uncooked, King Oysters are almost tasteless and have very little scent to them, but when cooked, they deliver an incredible umami flavor and a meaty texture.
These kits were developed as a way for people to learn a little more about growing mushrooms than your standard mushroom kits will teach you, and no special equipment is required. This kit includes a 5mL mushroom culture, instructions, a glossary of mycology terms, and a fungi word search.
The instructions cover two ways of growing them - the first way being to grow them in a bag of brown rice on your kitchen counter, the second way is to grow them in a bucket of straw. There is enough culture included to try both methods. Regardless of your growing medium of choice, these are fascinating to grow and delightful to cook with.
